A groundbreaking is just the beginning as city managers prepare to build a new sports facility due to open in a year. The $14.5 million, 50,000 square foot complex will be able to host sporting events year-round.
The outdoor sports complex in Round Rock is one major reason the city was able to raise nearly $10 million from its sports tourism program last year. Now the indoor facility is expected to make at least that much plus revenue from hotels and restaurant spending from visitors from out of town.
The City of Round Rock is breaking ground on a $14.5 million indoor sports facility. It’s a project that is expected to bring in millions of dollars in revenue to the city each year. It’s nothing but concrete and dirt now, but in less than a year an old lumber yard on Chisholm Trail Drive, just west of FM 3406 will be home to Round Rock’s Indoor Sports Facility.
Nancy Yawn with the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau says, “We have great outdoor facilities, but now it’s time to move indoors, with cheerleading, basketball, martial arts, badminton -- the list goes on and on.”

Round Rock has taken a big step toward enhancing its reputation as the "sports capital of Texas," as earlier this month officials broke ground on an indoor sports complex that could potentially draw many thousands of visitors to town in the years to come.
This is a long-term investment and it's taken some visionary planning. Round Rock has already had great success in recent years, attracting a variety of sporting events, thanks to the efforts of Nancy Yawn at the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
DALLAS -- Teravista Golf Club, an 18-hole, 7,200-yard layout in Round Rock, Texas, operated by Eagle Golf, was recently named the top public course in Central Texas by the Austin Business Journal.
The par-72 course located just north of Austin showcases the Texas Hill Country with rolling hills throughout the layout and constant breezes creating unique challenges with every shot. The course also has five sets of tees to accommodate every skill level from the experienced golfer seeking a true test to the beginner who just want to have fun.
